Check the domain name WHOIS before attempting a transfer.
- Verify that the domain name registration (creation) date to make sure it is at least 61 days old. Domain names must be registered for at least 60 days before they can be transferred from one registrar to another.
- Make sure that the domain name will not be expiring soon. Transfers made within ten days of domain expiration may fail.
- Do you have access to the e-mail address that is listed as the Administrative Contact? If you do not have access to this address, you must update it before you request the transfer. Please note that some registrars may block transfer outs for sixty days after contact updates. Please check with the current registrar for their specific transfer out requirements.
- Most domain names will require a Transfer Authorization Code to submit for processing. A Transfer Authorization Code is available from the current registrar and serves as a password for the domain transfer.
