What is a domain name?

A domain name is a unique name assigned to an organization or an individual that allows other people and computers to locate information on the Internet quickly and easily. It is your own distinctive Internet address. Without domain names, people would have to type in a string of numbers each time they wanted to access information or communicate with other people on the Internet. When you want someone to find you, you give them your domain name just as you would give someone your telephone number. It is a lot easier for someone to enter www.iDotz.Net than it is to remember the Internet Protocol (IP) address 64.78.32.21.
